I have a background in biology (undergraduate degree), medical anthropology (masters degree) and a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. 

Before embarking on my PhD project I conducted research on historical and anthropological transformations of childbirth models of attention in Mexico; on various issues around access to safe and legal abortion in

Mexico; on early marriage and teen pregnancy in Nicaragua, Mexico and Honduras; and as a

junior researcher on the public circulation of human genomic research knowledge in Mexico

as part of the Manchester-based ERC project ‘Admixture, race and nation’, an experience

through which I learned much about the intersections between science, politics, gender, race

and nation building. Beyond undertaking participant observation in high-end human genomic

research laboratories, I was able to discuss the ethnographic research insights produced by the

Mexican team (a senior researcher, a postdoc and me as a junior researchers) with those

produced by team members based in Brazil and Colombia.
